Putting Steve Jobs Career In Perspective

Most CEOs are managers. While they may navagate stormy seas and participate in epic battles with competition, their place in history is a brief mention in the company history and a few plaques from philanthropic activities.

Then there are the Titans of commerce.  CEOs who lead companies that change everything for everyone.  Think trains, assembly lines, semiconductors, vaccines,  telephones. Titans change the way things are done. They change the game for everyone. They create entire new industries and generate not just for themselves, but  for the millions of people that work for, invest in, are funded by and supported by the taxes of the companies that the Titans create.

So where does Steve Jobs fit?

Right at the top of the list with CEOs like Henry Ford, Cyrus McCormick, Andrew Carnegie, and John Piers Morgan. And Jobs did it three times: first with Apple, then with Pixar, then with Apple again.
