This presentation was given to the National Labor Exchange (NLX) Operations Committee in February 2012 to introduce State Workforce Agency leaders to HR Open Standards HR-XML.
The topic is still very relevant as exchanging HR data is still difficult and complex due to the sheer number of custom systems and processes in use at government agencies and in private companies. As of 2014, transferring job openings and resumes is still a very expensive custom software project. Adopting existing industry standards would go a long way in lowering costs and simplifying interoperability… and probably help thousands of people find a new job.
Note: I currently server on the Board of Directors for the HR Open Standards Consortium. My term ends December 31, 2014.
