On Friday my friend Erik Deckers posted about how Cumberland Pointe Apartments was abusing the flag. Erik's post really hit a nerve: I wish people would get a brain about the flag.

First, most people who have served in the military did so exclusively so people have the freedom to do boorish things like profane the flag. That said, it doesn't mean that Veterans like it (or you) when you choose to abuse the flag.

Second, wadding up the flag is stupid for several reasons: it offends people, someone might post it online and get a bunch of flag lovers mad at you and finally, it's poor fabric care and will cause your flag to wear prematurely. In this case it clearly is going to lose the Apartment complex in question a few customers.

Oh, and just to set the record straight, I'm very proud of our nation where you are indeed free to abuse our nation's flag. Freedom is much more valuable than the often made in China fabric of Old Glory.
